Bike Skills 202: Bike Path Ride for Adults

Monday, May 13th, 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Stetson Branch Library, 197 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT

This on-bike class gives novice and intermediate adult cyclists more opportunities to sharpen their skills on short, easy, mostly flat group rides. Teens who are 14 years old and up are welcome too. For those participants that know how to ride their bike non-stop for at least one mile, this is a class to learn how to ride in a group and use good etiquette on a multi-use trail. For novice cyclists that recently learned how to ride, this is a good way to practice starting and stopping and  handling the bike to avoid obstacles, and a good way to build physical endurance. Take one of our Learn to Ride classes (Bike Skills 102) if you still need to learn to balance and pedal smoothly. It's also a chance to meet other people who live riding their bikes and explore the New Haven area!

This ride will be about 2 or miles on the Farmington Canal Heritage Greenway (a bike path).

What to bring: A water bottle to stay hydrated. We can provide a free helmet if needed. A bicycle for you to use. The bike should be in good working order. Contact us if you have questions about your bike, or let us know in the registration that you need a bike to use.

Bike Path / Bike Lane Ride at Long Wharf

Thursday, April 25th, 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Metropolitan Business Academy, 115 Water St, New Haven, CT

Join community members, school staff, and students on a joyful bike ride on the bike trails of Long Wharf!  We’ll begin at Metropolitan Business Academy at 115 Water Street, and make stops at the Canal Dock Boathouse, view the New Haven coastline, food trucks, Long Wharf Nature Preserve, Sound School, and Hotel Marcel.

The ride is about 4 miles long, on separated bike lanes and bike paths to Long Wharf Nature Preserve and back. We’ll have ride marshals who will moderate the pace and make sure no one is ‘dropped’ off the back of the group.

This fun ride doubles as a “Bike Skills 202” on-bike class.  The goal is to provide novice and intermediate cyclists an opportunity to sharpen their skills on short, easy, mostly flat group rides.  (If you need to learn to balance and pedal smoothly, please first take one of our “Learn to Ride” classes, such as “Bike Skills 102.”)

For those participants who know how to ride their bike non-stop for at least one mile, this class ride offers an opportunity to ride in a group while practicing cycling etiquette on a multi-use trail. For novice cyclists that recently learned how to ride, this is an excellent way to apply starting and stopping strategies, avoiding obstacles, and building physical endurance.
